Hello to all!
It's been a very busy year here at the Budlong school library. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the things we've been up to.
-Some of our 4th - 8th grade students participated in the Battle of the Books competition. After reading 20 books, the students competed city wide to test their knowledge of the books. The students did their best and performed very well. I am very proud of their achievement and look forward to coaching them again for next year's competition.
-Our library received several grants which enabled us to order new material for our students. We have been able to expand our new listening library, and update many of the references and books in the library. Many thanks to everyone involved with the grant process.
- We continue to work on several different projects aimed to make books more accessible to our students. We anticipate the completion of these projects early next year. I would like to thank our library assistant, Miss Dunskys for all of her hard work and effort.
Finally, as we head into the summer break, I want to remind you of the importance of continuing your reading. Reading is a trait that does not end when school lets out, and it is very important to schedule time for reading during your break. When parents ask me how much should children read during the summer, I tell them to aim for about 2 hours every week. This roughly adds up to about 20-25 minutes a day. So if you need a break from the heat this summer, head on over to the public library and find something to read. Your mind will thank you for it!
Have a fun and safe summer vacation! See you in the fall!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Markovic
