2011-2012 School Year!

HELLO BUDLONG!
I want to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to the 2011-2012 school year. The start of the new school is always a time of excitement for students, as well as, teachers.
I have been working extra hard over the summer to create a great library experience for all of the students at Budlong. We will be focusing on literacy promotion and research skill building this year. All of the students will be participating in a "Reading Challenge". K-2 will participate in the "Monarch Award Program", 3rd-5th will be in the "Bluestem Reading Program", and the 6th-8th will be participating in the "Caudill Award Program". I will post more information about these programs on my blog.
Developing good readers is a team effort. Parents and teachers need to work together in order to promote reading to our students. Read to your children as often as possible, and take them on a trip to the public library so they can select books to read. The recommended time that a student should be reading is about 20-30 minutes a day. Studies have shown that children that read daily perform better in school.
